Interior Mount Perforated Window Films - How does that work and what are my choices?

May 13th, 2020

Everyone is familiar with perforated window films- you see them on the outside windows of convenience stores, malls, even doctor’s offices. They add privacy, let in light, and advertise a product or service at the same time.

If a client prefers applying the perforated window film on the inside of the window (to prevent vandalism, extend the life of the graphic or to meet local codes that don’t allow graphics on the outside of the window), what options can you offer?

There are two options to manufacture interior mount window graphics. Which product you choose will depend on your printer type and your installation skills.

The traditional way to manufacture interior mount window graphics is to use a product like Continental Grafix Panorama Innova Clear. This is a clear perforated vinyl with a removable adhesive. To print this film you need a printer with white ink.  You print the image reverse reading then add a white, then black layer of ink. Installation is similar to any exterior vinyl application. This film can be printed and trimmed to any shape but is limited by a 54” width.

A newer take on interior mount perforated window graphics is Continental Grafix Panorama Film and Panorama Tape. Panorama Film is a coated polyester film with a silicone coated paper backer.
You can print directly on this film with any Eco-Solvent, Latex or UV printer. The next step is to remove the backer then trim the graphic to size and apply clear Panorama Tape to the top and bottom of the graphic. Remove the clear liner on the Panorama Tape and apply to the window.
The Panorama Film is a polyester film and, when installed properly, will lay perfectly flat against the window and will not curl  when the sun heats the image. Installation and removal costs are greatly reduced with this method. It is recommended for square and rectangular images.

Both films work well with windows with no tint or light tint but are not recommended for heavily tinted windows often found in southern regions.
