How to Choose the Proper Fabric for Latex Printers
April 15th, 2016
by Frank Corey, Senior Area Sales Representative
There is a growing trend in the wide format digital printing world towards soft fabric graphics. Fabrics can reduce the cost of shipping when compared with rigid media, allow store personnel to install the graphics with silicone edge graphics (SEG- just insert gasket in frame edge to install the graphic) and add a more sophisticated appearance to the graphic.
Although dye sublimation is still the dominant method for printing fabrics, recent advances in latex ink technology has put a spotlight on fabrics that print well with these latex inks. Fabrics that work well with latex inks include heavy and soft knit fabrics, comparable to dye sublimation fabrics. These fabrics have good image quality, have a durable surface when finishing (sewing- the ink will not scratch off), are waterfast and have a soft feel.
If you have made the investment in the new generation of latex printers and would like to consider printing on fabrics, here is a brief summary of factors to consider.

February 29th, 2016
Written by Frank Corey, Senior Area Sales Representative
One of the most common questions asked by wide format digital printers is, “how do I manufacture a double sided graphic for a window application?” Sometimes you see a small graphic applied to the outside of a door and a similar sign backing it up on the inside of the door. This works for small door signs, but how do you manufacture a larger double-sided sign that can be applied inside a window or door? How do you have back to back graphics without any light shining through to the second side?

Creating Interior Window Graphics
February 9th, 2016
Written by Frank Corey, Senior Area Sales Representative
Interior window graphics have gained popularity in the past few years for a number of reasons. Interior window graphics can be installed any time of the year, in a controlled environment, unlike outdoor graphics which require a minimum application temperature of at least 55 degrees. Interior graphics can typically be applied without any concern for zoning laws that often prohibit signage on outdoor windows. Interior graphic don’t have the chance for vandalism like exterior graphics experience. Lastly, interior graphics are much easier to apply on upper level windows as compared to getting a scaffold for upper level exterior window applications.

Make Sure Your Message Sticks! Tips on Applying Graphics to Walls
January 21st, 2016
Written by Frank Corey, Mid Atlantic Area Sales Representative
A constant issue in the wide format, digital sign world is getting graphics to stick to painted walls. Failures typically occur when the top of the graphic releases and sometimes the entire graphic will be on the floor after one evening.
There are many factors that can cause these failures. The most obvious culprits are walls that are not cleaned properly (80% water, 20% isopropyl alcohol is typically recommended), walls that were just painted (paint can take up to 30 days to completely dry- no more outgassing), walls painted with new, low VOC paints, matte walls and walls with a lot of orange peel from numerous coats of paint.
