Creating Interior Window Graphics

Interior window graphics have gained popularity in the past few years for a number of reasons. Interior window graphics can be installed any time of the year, in a controlled environment, unlike outdoor graphics which require a minimum application temperature of at least 55 degrees. Interior graphics can typically be applied without any concern for zoning laws that often prohibit signage on outdoor windows. Interior graphic don’t have the chance for vandalism like exterior graphics experience. Lastly, interior graphics are much easier to apply on upper level windows as compared to getting a scaffold for upper level exterior window applications.
There are two methods to produce large format graphics for interior window applications.
The first method is to print the graphic on a paper such as Bloxlite, a film like Quality Media’s Duraprint Econoblock 8m or smooth banner Durabanner 13/2 and laminate a removable/ permanent adhesive to the image side. Remove the liner from the image and apply the removable adhesive side to the inside window. These removable/ permanent adhesives can have two smooth sides which work best for smaller signage or have a bubble free side that applies to the window and a smooth side that applies to the image side (Windowbond). Windowbond can be applied easily (repositionable) by professionals or store personnel.
The second method is to print on a clear, removable adhesive vinyl with the image flipped (aka reverse reading) and laminate an adhesive vinyl backer to the clear image. Remove the liner from the clear adhesive and apply to the window.
This method has more options for installation and backers.
There are clear adhesive vinyl with dry apply (Duravinyl 262), wet apply (Duravinyl 263), and bubble free (Duravinyl 463) adhesives. Typically you would use Duravinyl 262 for smaller applications since applying a dry application to a window requires some skill. Duravinyl 263 requires a professional wet application while Duravinyl 463, bubble free can be dry applied by both store personnel and professional installers.
There are three backers available, inexpensive, white (Duravinyl 251), white, barrier blockout (Duravinyl 305), and translucent (Duravinyl 272) adhesive vinyl backers available. Duravinyl 251 (white) is used for most applications, Duravinyl 305 is used for applications that require a totally opaque backer and Duravinyl 272 is for day/night backlit applications.
